How World Leaders Contribute to the Refugee Crisis
World Vision, a charity (Forced to flee: Top countries refugees are coming from | World Vision) has identified the largest refugee populations across the world. Refugees have fled the following countries:\
Syria- Approximately 6.5 million refugees have fled Syria in the last 15 years.
Afghanistan- Approximately 7 million refugees have fled Afghanistan over the last 25 years.
Venezuela- Approximately 8 million refugees have fled Venezuela over the last 10 years.
Ukraine- Approximately 6.5 million refugees have fled Ukraine in addition to more than 48 million displaced people.
Sudan- Approximately 2 million refugees have fled Sudan since 2022. More than 12 million Sudanese have been displaced over the last 40 years.
Myanmar- More than 1 million refugees have fled Myanmar since 2017. In addition, there are more than 2.3 million displaced people.
For each of these countries, Against Ignorance will examine how world leaders have made these crises take place. The reason is that it is not only external aggression or the threat of war that has led to this hugely significant refugee population. It is the decisions of the countries own leadership to push these people out, rather than negotiate a solution to prevent this kind of crisis that has led to the devastating impact on people’s lives. It is a terrific problem that in negotiating treaties and confronting crisis that leads to loss of life and war, conflicting parties do not consider preventing refugee populations when confronting each other. this blog will review United Nations mandates regarding crisis negotiation and international treaties such as The Law of Armed Conflict, The Geneva Convention, and the U.N. charter, generally.
