
This quote is from The Meditations. It juxtaposes seeking the truth to self-deception and ignorance. Roman philosophers believed in truth as a method rather than truth as revelation. Christians believe in the revealed truth. For Marcus Aurelius the method of seeking ignorance was not the same as that method of seeking the truth.
